So, my rating has a good bit of personal preference in it, which is a bit of a downer. It seems overly "artsy" to me to the point of coming off pretentious. Perhaps that's the point, though? The writing isn't necessarily bad, but it isn't holding my attention.
On the positive end: The voice acting is excellent, the music is excellent, and the art is excellent. Because of these things, I ended up rating this high in spite of this not fitting to my taste overall. If my main critique was the point of your project, then you can consider this a resounding success!

StudioMadeleineChai responds:

(Tim) Thank you for your review! I appreciate your critique.
When I did the writing, I wanted to make the narration (via choices) as distinct as possible so that the payoff of the narrator being an actual character is heightened. The stilted nature of their "conversation" was intentional, but there was certainly much room for improvement before the voice acting phase of the project.

Hope you stick around for other projects!

This game has promise, but there are some major problems:
Firstly, there's no explanation of controls either in the game or the description. Generally you want to include something in the game that tells you what the basic controls are.
Secondly, the movement is jerky and awkward, which makes the game hard to play smoothly.
I like the idea of the change into a sword fighter, but I'd love to see a more significant change in the controls besides just that now his attack is melee instead of ranged.
Finally, a start and end screen would be nice. Currently, as I write this review, the game is repeatedly running and the character is basically suiciding into asteroids and enemies.
I'd really like to see something like this pushed to the next level! If could be a lot of fun!

Samsworld2021 responds:

Don't worry! Updates are coming soon!

What I like about the game: The concept of moving your tower around is fun, and changes the dynamic of a typical Tower Defense game.

What I didn't like: Considering the limitations, the game is basically impossible. Enemies become more than you can possibly handle within a few rounds. The limitation of a single tower works against you. Also, what even is the point of the bomb tower? It doesn't seem to do anything at all.

Stopsignal responds:

Thank you so much!!
Bomb tower is a bit borked at the moment- shoots twice then gets stuck (can circumvent by just changing off and back to it again). However it's extremely useful, as it one hit kills blue guys and also knights.
Check out the spoiler section in the description for details on how to kill the enemies!!
In any case, thanks for trying it out!

Sorry, but this is SOOOO slow. The graphics are poor. The map lacks detail. The system is glitchy so that you can only sell weed. Half the time when you click something, nothing happens with no explanation of whether it failed. The one star I gave is because this has potential to be something good. Improve the game and hopefully I can improve my score.

Arensnuphis responds:

I am still working on this game I will keep what you said here in mind while I work on it.

What the hell is this supposed to be!? I click to start and all that happens is a big graphic that says it's a tutorial but makes no sense pops up that can't be pulled down. Nothing about that graphic makes any sense at all, by the way. I'm not sure what sort of drunk or stoned (or both) reasoning caused you to make that monstrosity, but it's not helpful at all!
0 stars because there's no actual game. It's too bad, I was really excited for the premise.

FadrikAlexander responds:

sorry for the bad tutorial, it was a Game Jam project so I didn't have that much time on the tutorial.

What a fantastic puzzle! Strategy with just a hint of time management! I love it!
Edit: Ran into an error on map DSK2. play screen went black.

Pandanym responds:

Hi ! Thank you for the kind words. Some of the levels were excluded from the build, we're uploading a fix.

It's an okay concept, but it would be really nice if you would give some instructions. It took quite a bit of trial and error to figure out, and most people aren't as patient as me. I like the fact that it can be played hotseat, and I can see some great potential for it. Looking forward to the single player adjustment!

olaff666 responds:

thanks for the feedback. single player mode is coming soon (as soon as I create AI stupid enough to think like a football player;)

I REALLY like the idea of this game... The execution, not so much. There is either an essential component which needs to be explained, or the game is simply impossible as the "gun" doesn't actually do anything other than shoot out a white line which as far as I can see changes nothing. That's really too bad, as I was really looking forward to a puzzle or two.
Edit: There must be a glitch. There are no red boxes.

Etchlight-Studios responds:

Shoot at the red boxes to invert their gravity sorry for not explaining that

Controls don't always work. They seem to stop working at rather inopportune moments also. What's more, earning Adrenaline seems completely random. Sometimes I'll get 3 right away, sometimes I'll get through several minutes and not get even 1.

NicoMoretti responds:

I'm so happy you guys played this! To whoever encounters this problem in the future, adrenaline must be collected from the defeated enemies (it's the pink orbs left on the ground!). Thank you again for your feedback :)

To be clear, the only people who will think this game is any good are those of us who played the original and have a bit of a nostalgia boner. Truth be told, the original game was good, but not great, and mainly shone because it was great for what was available at the time. Currently, it's easier than ever to make games on flash or other internet based platforms. This sort of quality is no longer acceptable, and really just looks kinda lazy. Using the art and the name just smacks of stealing the original creators art to sell a crappy, uninspired copy-pasta of what he struggled to create.
All the irritation aside, rating this as a game still requires a low rating. The art isn't great. The game itself is simplistic and far to short with no actual ending. And to be clear, slapping "demo" on the game doesn't excuse this. Plenty of games in development in this site that have an end-game even as they're working to pad out the overall content. This just seems lazy.
Finally, your inventory is buggy. There are at least 3 items which should be "traded", but they stay in the inventory.
Final word: This needs a lot of work as a game, and feels strongly like you simply stole someone's game idea and hoped you could pass it off as a "tribute."

Jamessimo responds:

Thanks for your feedback. I have addressed your larger complaints in the thread. However it was intended to be solely a tech demo and not a finished game. The final game will act and look a lot different.

I drive for a living, but am hoping to one day be able to make a living off of my writing! Also, I really love my kitties!
